During the past 12 years, Richard has been engaged as a program manager / business analyst on
over 175 projects for 89 different industries, in such fields as computer technology and security, finance
& banking, software research & development, e-commerce, aerospace, electronics and computer
manufacturing, military and government operations, education, medical, legal, ship building, oil field
construction, logging, sales force supervision, recruiting and staffing.
Richard was a founding member of a global online consortium (StratX Team)dedicated to
researchers, academics, and business practitioners who are passionate about collaborating on the changing paradigms
for planning and executing effective strategies. StratX provides expertise in methods used to align daily
operations with corporate vision, and ensuring those operations actually advance the business toward that
vision.
Previously, Richard held positions as chief operating officer for a public key infrastructure
company; as the executive vice president of a software development firm; as a practice director for a
computer consulting company; as operations manager for an aerospace defense contractor; as a magistrate for
the Commonwealth of Virginia; as a community college instructor (physics, mathematics & computer
science); and as Director of the Electronics & Telecommunications Evaluation Center, Office of the
Secretary of Defense.
Prior to his civilian endeavors, Richard served on active duty for 14 years in the United
States Army, throughout the U.S. and Asia, with duties in both the Infantry and Intelligence branches. His
awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Cross of Gallantry (Vietnamese), and Purple
Heart.
His education was received at Norwich University (MBA),The University of the State of New York
(BS, AS), Utah Technical College (AS), and at eight military service schools, including the US Military
Academy at West Point, NY, with studies in the disciplines of signals & human intelligence, project
planning & management, Judge Advocate General, combat infantry, languages/cultures (Japanese, Vietnamese,
French.) Richard is also a graduate of the Advanced Project Management Program at Stanford University in Palo
Alto, California.
Richard enjoys exploring the world and engaging in most sports and outdoor recreational
activities, such as hiking, SCUBA, skydiving, tennis and golf, as well as a wide variety of cultural
activities. Richard is married to the former Genie Malm of San Francisco, California; they currently make
their home on WhidbeyIsland, WA.
